I've been a fan of Chinese food for as long as I can remember. I have gone all over New England enjoying this cuisine at all the top spots. This place is truly a Diamond in the rough. Tucked away at Mill Rd. Plaza, in Durham, I first experienced Mei Wei as a Refrigeration tech. I noticed the kitchen was cleaner other spots around. Finally I found a "go" for Chinese food. The vegetables are always fresh and crispy. The sushi is exceptional and so is everything else. The service is top notch. After eating here it has ruined going out anywhere else. FACTS - THE BEST CHINESE IN THE STATE!!!! And pretty much the entire New England area.
Being new to the area, there is a lot of experimentation I've gone through looking for delicious places to eat. I am delighted to share that Mei Wei is going to be one of my go-to's moving forward. The service was exceptional, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect to wind down after a stressful few hours at work. A fun piece about the atmosphere I appreciated was that they were playing piano covers of modern radio songs, which was a nice background that was simple, however engaging.
A true gem! It's my favorite Asian restaurant in the Durham-Dover area by far. Nothing fancy, "just" a great selection of very good food at reasonable prices. Not the forget a very nice staff!
Stopped in my first night in Durham craving some sushi, great service and great rolls!
I'd like to preface this by saying I tend to be a bit picky on the places that I frequent, and I absolutely adore Mei Wei. This is one of, if not the only place in the area where you can get great sushi, tempura, teriyaki/hibachi, sweet and sour dishes, and pu pu platers. Most places in the area either have just Chinese or just Japanese/sushi with maybe a few Chinese staples. I tend to enjoy more Chinese food vs my sushi obsessed friends so this is the perfect place to have a girls night out, date night, family excursion, or get take out/ delivery for a gathering at home. I really enjoy sitting at the bar after a long day, eating great food and decompressing. The staff is absolutely wonderful and the place gives off good vibes. They have a very nice bar where you can watch the sushi chef while enjoying your food, and have a variety of tables to accommodate couples to larger groups. 10/10 recommend. If you visit don't forget to check the board as they tend to do 5 Mai-tai Wednesdays and 8 Scorpio bowl Thursdays!
I got 3 rolls for 23.50 out the door , it was FANTASTIC. At first I was caught off guard because there were only 6 slices per roll but they are deep slices , it was so good.
Beautifully decorated with great priced dishes and drinks. My husband and I stopped in for lunch, and had a great experience. Our waitress was friendly and quick with items. The food items are decorated as well. Very impressed with our experience and it was under 50 for a couple rolls, an app, and a couple drinks! Loved it, will be back!
I met my wife here every Wednesday for 4 years. We would drink 3 scorpion bowls each and go home grinning ear to ear. This place will always have a special place in my heart
